WATERVILLE — Megan Fortier scored with 8:29 left to lift the Colby women’s hockey team to a 2-1 win over Williams in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Lauren Guarente gave Colby (9-8, 2-8 NESCAC) the lead at 10:10 of the second period and Williams (7-7-1, 4-3-1) tied it on a goal by Sara Lehman seven minutes later.

Jess Thulin made 34 saves for Colby while Christina Cleroux stopped 16 shots for Williams.

MIDDLEBURY 5, BOWDOIN 3: The Panthers (10-2-3, 7-1-2 NESCAC) built a 4-0 lead and held on to defeat the Polar Bears (8-5-3, 5-3-1) at Brunswick.

Middlebury went up 2-0 just 42 seconds into the game on goals by Katie Sullivan and Elizabeth Wulf. Jessica Young and Emily Fluke then scored to make it 4-0. Maddie Baird, Colleen Finnerty and Chelsea MacNeil scored for the Polar Bears.

Madeline Marsh made 23 saves for Middlebury, while Beth Findley stopped 25 shots for Bowdoin.

NORTHEASTERN 5, MAINE 2: The Black Bears (8-12-3, 7-5-1 Hockey East) took a 2-0 lead early in the second period but gave up five straight goals and lost to the Huskies (7-12-4, 6-7-1 Hockey East) in Orono.

Kelsey MacSorely scored in the first period and Jennifer More in the second for Maine. Meghann Treacy had 37 saves for the Black Bears.

Denisa Krizova and Hayley Masters each scored twice for Northeastern.

BASKETBALL

TUFTS 83, BATES 37: The fifth-ranked Jumbos outscored the Bobcats 51-16 in the second half to win in Medford, Massachusetts.

Michela North led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Jumbos (16-1, 4-0 NESCAC), while Melissa Baptista and Hayley Kanner each had 15 points.

Nina Davenport led the way for Bates (9-8, 0-4) with 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.

BOWDOIN 62, COLBY 57: Shannon Brady scored six consecutive points during a 15-4 run that gave the Polar Bears (17-2, 5-0 NESCAC) an eight-point lead with 30 seconds remaining against Colby (12-5, 2-3) in Brunswick.

Brady scored 18 points to lead Bowdoin. Marle Curle added 15 points, while Katie Kerrigan and Sara Binkhorst had 12 each. Carylanne Wolfington scored 18 points for the Mules.

WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 73, SOUTHERN MAINE 52: Caroline Brasa scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Colonials (11-5, 3-4 LEC) in a victory over the Huskies (8-9, 4-3) at Gorham.

Colleen Cosker added 20 for the Colonials. Ella Ramonas and Stephanie Gallagher scored 10 points each for USM.

ST. JOSEPH’S (CONN.) 57, ST. JOSEPH’S (MAINE) 50: Brianna Ferraro scored 24 points to lead the Blue Jays (11-4, 3-1 GNAC) by the Monks (7-10, 2-1), at West Hartford, Connecticut.

Ferraro scored 18 points in the second half to help the hosts pull away.

Sarah Assante had 15 points and Morgan Cahill added 11 for the Monks.

SOUTHERN MAINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 68, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 58: Alicia Hoyt scored 13 points in the final 18:25 as the Seawolves (12-7) rallied from a 15-point deficit to beat the Owls (6-10) in Presque Isle.

Hoyt finished with 22 points, while Amira Jones added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tiana Burton added 13 points off the bench. Darby Toth scored 22 for UMPI.

(3) BAYLOR 68, KANSAS STATE 46: Alexis Prince scored 18 points as the Bears (18-1, 7-0 Big 12) earned their 17th straight win, in Waco, Texas.

(6) NOTRE DAME 74, CLEMSON 36: Jewell Loyd scored 17 points, and Brianna Turner added 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Irish (19-2, 6-1 ACC) won in Clemson, South Carolina.
