KENNEBUNK — Scott Andrew Carney, 47, of West Kennebunk, died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at his residence.

He was born in Ports-mouth, Virginia on April 13, 1967, a son of Sidney Andrew Carney and Susan Lee (Harrell) Michaels.

He grew up in Kennebunk, and was a graduate of Kennebunk High School, Class of 1985.

Scott was a talented artist. He was a mason, by trade, and eventually transitioned into designing furniture. He was employed at Richardson Allen in Biddeford for 21 years, and personally designed several pieces of furniture for many celebrities.

Scott was the ultimate “Dead Head,” and was probably the biggest and most loyal fan of the Grateful Dead. He attended every concert he could, and even followed them through Europe on one of their tours.

Having never married, Scott loved animals, and considered his many dogs as his children.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, stonework, and drawing.

The kindest person and gentlest soul you would ever want to meet, he never had a bad word to say about anyone. He looked out for others, especially anyone struggling in life. Always happy, he truly enjoyed living. Scott created beauty in everything he touched.

Scott is preceded in death by: his father, Sidney Andrew Carney.

SHe is survived by: his mother, Susan Lee Michaels of Kennebunk; his brother, Mark Carney and wife Jill of Wells; his sister, Robin Richardson and husband Chad of Minnesota; two stepbrothers, Josh Michaels of Kittery and Paul Michaels of Kennebunk; two nephews, Christopher Carney of Wells, and Kyle Boisvert of Kennebunk; his niece, Lynzi Boisvert of Kennebunk; and his stepfather, Steven Michaels of Danforth.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, Jan. 30 from 9:30 -11:30 a.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at noon at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk.
