BIDDEFORD — Robert A. Boilard, 89, of Biddeford, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook.

He was born March 28, 1925 in Saco, a son of Eugene and Coronna (Rondeau) Boilard, and was educated at St. Joseph School and St. Louis High School.

Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

On April 27, 1947 he married Madeleine Remillard.

He was employed as a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 35 years, retiring in 1983.

Robert was a member of the American Legion, the Saco Yacht Club and a founding member of the Saco River Corridor. He was a friend and fishing colleague of former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, as well as an avid sportsman in all seasons and a fishing guide on the Saco River.

He was an active and vocal advocate for conservation and protection of the Saco River, and was involved in many other environmental issues affecting Biddeford, York County and the State of Maine.

He is preceded in death by: siblings Conrad Boilard, Yvette Gervais and Rachel Laverriere.

He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Madeleine Boilard of Biddeford; three daughters, Joan Crowley of Biddeford, Patricia Fecteau of Biddeford, and Karen Boilard of Biddeford; one son, Marc Boilard and his wife Jennifer; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grand children; and siblings Leo Boilard, and Maurice (Moe) Boilard and his wife Catherine.
