Anne Riva Singer Alvare, 78, died after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis on Jan. 22, 2015, in Northampton, MA. She was born on July 11, 1936, in Bath, Maine, to Isadore and Bessie Greenblatt Singer.

She was generous with her time, volunteering at a homeless shelter and at public radio fund drives. She was a good friend to many, always available and happy to dispense thoughtful advice. Anne was an avid reader and loved being surrounded by her many books.

Anne is survived by her brother, Stephen Singer, her daughters, Adrianne Castro and Susan Hedman, and her grandchildren, Bobby Castro and Isa Hedman.

The memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at 10 a.m. Memorial donations may be made in Anne’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
