A New Gloucester man suffered head injuries when his snowmobile crashed Sunday afternoon on Watchic Lake in Standish, the Maine Warden’s Service said.

Lt. Tim Place identified the operator as Aaron Lusk, 25. Lusk was operating a 2006 Ski-Doo snowmobile on Watchic Lake around 1:30 p.m. when he crashed his snowmobile.

Place said Lusk’s helmet fell off as a result of the crash. Lusk, who was alone on the sled, received head injuries and was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where his condition was unavailable Sunday night.

Game Warden Cody Lounder investigated the accident. Lounder said that Lusk’s sled got caught in slushy snow on the lake, causing it to roll over. Speed may have contributed to the crash, according to a press release issued by the Maine Warden Service.

Wardens were assisted by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office as well as by Standish Fire and Rescue.
