The 13 Radio Shack stores scheduled to close in Maine by March 15 as part of the company’s bankruptcy case include the St. John Street store in Portland and the Maine Mall store in South Portland, court documents show.

The closures will reduce the number of Radio Shack stores in Maine from 25 to 12, not including four independent merchants that offer some of the company’s products and services.

Two stores will remain open in the Portland area: at 1064 Brighton Ave. in Portland and 251 U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth.

An employee at the 264 St. John St. store said it is scheduled to close by the end of the month and that all items have been marked down 30 percent to 60 percent. The Maine Mall store has not yet been given a closing date but is expected to close in mid-March, an employee said. As of Tuesday, its inventory had not yet been marked down.

Radio Shack Corp., based in Fort Worth, Texas, announced Thursday that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization and reached an agreement to sell up to 2,400 of its roughly 4,000 company-owned stores in the U.S. to a newly formed entity called General Wireless Inc. Up to 1,750 of those stores would establish a new affiliation with wireless carrier Sprint Corp. and sell both companies’ products, it said.

Radio Shack said Monday that it would close more than 1,780 of its poorly performing stores by March 15, including the 13 locations in Maine.
