WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Scott Heath retired 17 of the final 18 batters he faced and the University of Maine baseball team beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 6-4 on Sunday.

Heath, from Westbrook, pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking one for Maine (1-3). Jonah Normandeau, Jacob Gosselin-Deschesnes and Charlie Butler pitched in relief to finish off the win. Butler went 1 1/3 innings to earn the save.

Heath also contributed at the plate, with three hits, an RBI and a run scored. Leadoff batter Sam Balzano also had three hits and scored two runs, while Alex Cabrera scored twice and drove in a run and Brett Chappelle had two hits and two RBI. Luke Morrill, a Rockland native, was 3 for 4.

Luke Meeteer had two hits and scored a run for Wisconsin-Milwaukee (3-1).

BASKETBALL

(5) WISCONSIN 68, ILLINOIS 49: Frank Kaminsky scored 23 points, Bronson Koenig added 15, and the host Badgers (23-2, 11-1 Big Ten) beat the Illini (17-9, 7-6).

Nigel Hayes had 14 points for the Badgers, who are now off to their best start in school history at 23-2. Wisconsin leads the Big Ten at 11-1 in conference play.

(7) ARIZONA 86, WASHINGTON STATE 59: Brandon Ashley, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Kaleb Tarczewski each scored 17 points as the Wildcats (22-3, 10-2 Pac-12) routed the Cougars (11-14, 5-8) in Pullman, Washington.

(13) NORTH IOWA 68, MISSOURI STATE 57: Seth Tuttle scored 22 points and the Panthers (24-2, 13-1 Missouri Valley Conference) beat the Bears (9-17, 3-11) in Springfield, Missouri.

(11) UTAH 76, CALIFORNIA 61: Jakob Poeltl had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Utes (20-4, 10-2 Pac-12) beat the Bears (16-10, 6-7) Utah’s 17th straight home victory.
