AUGUSTA (AP) — A former Maine woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling from two youth sports organizations and to stealing state welfare benefits.
Wendi Willette, formerly of Winslow, but who now lives in Whitefield, New Hampshire, entered her pleas Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court.
The Kennebec Journal reports that under an agreement between the prosecution and defense, Willette faces up to four years in prison with all but 12 to 18 months suspended. She remains free pending sentencing scheduled for June 22.
Under the deal, Willette must also pay restitution of more than $60,000 to the state and $8,425 to the Winslow Wrestling Sports Boosters Club, where she was the treasurer, as well as $300 to the China youth field hockey team, where she was a coach.
