A Steep Falls man was arrested early Thursday morning after police in Westbrook found him breaking into a vehicle.

Police responding to reports of suspicious activity discovered fresh footprints in the snow near a residence on Mechanic Street. Officers followed those prints to a parked car where Franklin LeClair, 51, was hiding.

LeClair was arrested and charged with one count of burglary to a motor vehicle, refusing to submit to arrest and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

He may, however, face more charges as police believe several vehicles may have been burglarized in the area of Mechanic and Green streets.

Some items have been recovered, according to police, but anyone who believes their vehicle may have been burglarized is asked to call the Westbrook Police Department at 854-0644.
