BRUNSWICK

Folk Dance Brunswick, from 6:30-9 p.m. every Friday, is an opportunity to enjoy traditional international folk dancing at People Plus.

Folk Dance Brunswick offers world music and dance from the Balkans, Israel, Western Europe, and around the globe. It’s good exercise and great social fun. Many dances are taught. No partner is needed. All levels, ages, and abilities are welcome. The suggested donation is $8, or $5 for students and seniors.

Folk Dance Brunswick was founded in 2012 by Ed Pontius of Topsham and Donna Bann of Brunswick. Ed’s life-long interest in folk dancing dates back to his strong, positive experiences with it in his college years. Donna is a dance and movement therapist who shares Ed’s passion for creating dance opportunities for fellow community members.

The goal of Folk Dance Brunswick is to offer a warm, lively public event that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy. The group is designed for friendly community fun and is completely noncompetitive. Easy-to-understand instruction will help beginners get started. More challenging dances are also offered. Teachers make every effort to explain the level of difficulty of each dance ahead of time so that participants can decide for themselves when they want to dance or to sit out and observe from the sidelines. Comfortable seating is provided for taking a break and enjoying conversation with others.
