Portland police are looking for a woman who tried to rob the 7-Eleven at 27 Washington St. of a carton of cigarettes early Wednesday morning.

The male clerk reported that a woman came in at 1:15 a.m. and asked for a carton of cigarettes. In a surveillance video released by police, the woman appears to be making conversation, then casually reaches into her coat pocket and takes out pepper spray. She pointed the spray at the clerk but as she glanced at the top of the device, the man grabbed the woman’s arm, then tried to grab her by the front of her jacket. He let her go after she bit him on the hand, police said.

The woman fled without the cigarettes. The bite on the man’s hand was the only injury, police said.

The woman is described as white and in her 30s, 5-feet-4-inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with dark hair and wearing a tan jacket, jeans and a winter hat.
