Is it just me, or is anyone else amazed that Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew has kept her job?

After the day-care licensing blunders, the no-bid, plagiarized consultant report, the costly mismanagement of Riverview Psychiatric Center, and the string of fiascos at the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, this reader wonders what level of incompetence must be reached before a resignation becomes a foregone conclusion.

Meanwhile, Mainers have watched as John Fitzsimmons, an exceptionally competent and accomplished leader, was bullied from his position as president of the Maine Community College System. What kind of funhouse mirror must the Blaine House have that would make such a scenario seem clear?

I’m stumped, but maybe it’s just me.
