SPRINGVALE — A leading voice for tapping the full potential of the New England woods is scheduled to speak at the annual meeting of the York County Soil and Water Conservation District March 12. The public is welcome.

Alec Giffen, the former head of the Maine Forest Service, will speak about “New England Forests: Path to Sustainability,” a new report by the New England Forestry Foundation.

The annual meeting takes place at 6:45 p.m. in the Nasson Heritage room of the Anderson Learning Center, 21 Bradeen St., Springvale. A maple syrup tasting and grading takes place at 6 p.m.

The District’s Board of Supervisors plans to honor Kittery dairy farmer Richard Johnson, and small woodlot owner Richard Nass of Acton.
