Fryeburg police checked up on a defendant Tuesday to make sure he was abiding by his bail conditions, and instead found more than four pounds of marijuana.

Police charged Corey Warren, 29, of 60 Maple St. in Fryeburg with drug possession, violating bail conditions, cultivating marijuana, use of drug paraphernalia and possession of dangerous knives, according to a police news release. He was being held on $1,500 bail at Oxford County Jail in South Paris.

Warren had been arrested in November on felony drug charges following an investigation by Fryeburg police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and had been released from jail on conditions that included engaging in no new criminal conduct.

Police Chief Joshua Potvin said police have seized more than 12 pounds of marijuana in multiple cases since November, as well as other drugs with a street value of $20,000.

In addition to holding suspects criminally accountable, officers are encouraged to make referrals to drug counselors when appropriate, he said.
