TOPSHAM — Doris M. Belanger, 86, of Prospect Street, died March 2 in Portland, with her family by her side.

She was born in Eagle Lake on Oct. 19, 1928, the daughter of Wilfred and Mabel (Shorette) Raymond. The family moved to Brunswick when she was 10, and she attended St. John’s School.

She was employed at Woolworth’s until she was 16, when she went to work for the Varney Mill until its closing in 1955. She then worked for area shoe shops in Brunswick and Freeport.

On Sept. 6, 1948, she married Gerard H. Belanger, and the couple resided in Topsham to raise their family.

Doris was an active communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, in Brunswick, and a member of the Daughters of Isabella and of the Evergreen Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, who died June 14, 1987.

She is survived by a daughter, Jane M. Bergquist and husband, Kerry, of Denmark; a son, Ron Belanger, of Topsham; five grandchildren and their spouses, Aaron and Nicole Coy, of Bucksport, Michael and Melissa Coy, of Westbrook, Alyssa Coy of Bridgton, Ron Belanger Jr. of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Chelsea Elam, of Brunswick; five great-grandchildren, Finn Elam, Daniel Ross, Landon Ross, Harlo Ross and Lian Coy; two sisters, Pamela Buckley, of Brunswick, and Mary Holbrook and husband, Jerry, of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial was celebrated March 6 at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be held in the spring at St. John’s Cemetery.
