Three local companies are teaming up with the transportation service Home Runners to provide free rides for anyone too inebriated to drive on Tuesday, St. Patrick’s Day.

Dan Furst, the owner of Portland-based Home Runners, said his drivers will provide free transportation from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. Wednesday in Greater Portland.

A team of two drivers will meet a person who calls for a ride at a bar and then drive the person home in his or her own car, Furst said.

On most days, a pickup costs $15 and a fee of $3 per mile is added to the pickup cost. On Tuesday, all rides through Home Runners will be free.

The free ride home program is being sponsored by Nappi Distributors of Portland, Shipyard Brewing and Residential Mortgage Services.

People who need rides home on St. Patrick’s Day should call Home Runners at 332-7433 or 332-RIDE.
