CLERMONT, Fla. — The Bowdoin softball team rallied for four runs in the fifth inning and went on to edge Fredonia State 6-5 on Friday.

Adriane Krul and Julia Geaumont each hit RBI doubles, Cielle Collins singled home a run and the Polar Bears got their other run in the fifth on a fielding error.

The Polar Bears (11-4) fell behind 5-0 after Fredonia’s first two at-bats, but got a run in the bottom of the second when Katie Gately scored on a fielding error.

Marisa O’Toole doubled in Gately in the second.

Madeline Medina hit a three-run double in the first for the Blue Devils (3-7).

KEENE STATE 2, BOWDOIN 1: Ashlee McGan pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts and the Owls scored single runs in the second and sixth innings against the Polar Bears at Clermont, Florida.

Shae Crosby hit an RBI single in the first and Jennifer Galavotti drove in Aliza Guerrero on a ground out in the sixth for the Owls (4-6).

Julia Geaumont (3-2) allowed six hits and no walks while striking out three for Bowdoin (11-5).

BASEBALL

ALLEGHENY SWEEPS BOWDOIN: The Gators won the opener 3-1 and beat the Polar Bears 6-4 in the second game at Lakeland, Florida.

Chase Boyer pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks in the opener.

Matt Sardini put the Gators ahead 3-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Aaron Rosen homered for Bowdoin (6-3).

HOCKEY EAST SEMIFINALS

UMASS-LOWELL 4, VERMONT 1: The Catamounts took a 1-0 lead on Kevin Irwin’s first-period goal, but the River Hawks dominated afterward to advance to their third consecutive Hockey East title game, at TD Garden in Boston.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 4, UNH 1: Jack Eichel scored twice as the top-seeded Terriers beat the Wildcats to set up a Hockey East title showdown with UMass-Lowell.
