The Casco Bay U-12 Girls Tier II team won the New England Regional hockey championship on March 15 with a 5-1 victory over Hanover, New Hampshire, at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.

Casco Bay finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, including a 5-1 win over defending champion Darien, Connecticut, in the semifinals. The Maine squad outscored opponents 18-8, getting goals from 11 of its 15 skaters.

Team members were: Lucia Pompeo, Emma Merrill and Caroline Lerch of Portland; Hannah Woodford of Gray; Camilla Lattanzi and Kerry Roberts of Cumberland; Caroline Grant and Sophie Newberg of Yarmouth; Abbey Matusovich of New Gloucester; Abbey Agrodnia and Nicoletta Coupe of Cape Elizabeth; Beth Goodrich of North Waterboro; Caylnn Gendreau of Scarborough; Rylie McIntyre of Topsham; and Emma McCauley and Hannah Twombly of South Portland. Coaches were Scott Matusovich, David Merrill and Mike Grant.

Mike Legere of South Portland made a hole-in-one on Feb. 8 at the Royal St. Cloud Golf Links in St. Cloud, Florida.

Legere used a 6-iron on the 156-yard sixth hole. His playing partners were Joe Folan, Paul Berube and Robert Rodriguez. It was Legere’s second hole-in-one.
