BIDDEFORD — The University of New England opened its Commonwealth Coast Conference softball schedule Tuesday by sweeping Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-4 and 9-0 over five innings.

Paige Moore-Haskell had five singles, drove in four runs and scored three times for the Nor’easters (6-6, 2-0) against Wentworth (0-8, 0-2).

Amanda Vallante, Abby Lambert and Meghan Bolano each had three of UNE’s 24 hits on the day, also combining for seven RBI.

COLBY LOSES TWO: Meaghan Lewia had three hits as the Mules (3-3) managed only six singles while dropping 3-0 three-hitters against D’Youville (5-4) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (7-5) in Clermont, Florida.

Jessica Banning pitched the early three-hitter for D’Youville, while Lydia Monin drove home two runs and scored the third during a three-run third inning for the Spartans.

Clare Robbe struck out seven for Oshkosh in the second game. Hayden Krueger led the Titans with an RBI and a run.

BASEBALL

COLBY SWEEPS HAMILTON: Scott Goldberg struck out 10 over the first five innings, and Soren Hanson launched a two-run homer to lead the Mules (5-1) to a 15-5 victory in the first game at Winter Haven, Florida. Hanson added two doubles during a 10-3 victory over Hamiton (6-5) in the second game.

Tommy Forese finished the doubleheader with two doubles among his three hits, four runs and two RBI for a Mules team that had 25 runs and 29 hits in the sweep.

SALEM STATE 6, BATES 1: Richard Fecteau and Jose Cedano singled home runs during a three-run first inning, and Salem State (5-5) went on to defeat Bates (5-3) at Salem, Massachusetts.

Cedano scored in the second as the Vikings made it 5-0.

Nate Pajka rapped an RBI double and drew two walks, and Samuel Warren scored on the sixth-inning double for Bates.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 10, rochester institute of technology 7: Sara Miller scored from Lexie Perticone with 23:58 left in the second half to forge a 5-5 tie and start the winning 5-0 run as Colby (8-1) downed RIT (2-4) at Clermont, Florida.

Miller had three goals and one assist, and Sasha Fritts and Abby Hooper each had two goals for the Mules. Kendall Smith added a goal and two assists.

MEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 12, WASHINGTON & LEE 11: Austin Sayre scored with 1:27 left in the game, lifing Colby (5-2) over the 15th-ranked Generals (7-3) at Lexington, Virginia.

Alex Rutan of the Mules score to make it 11-11 with 2:20 remaining.

Kevin Seiler had four goals to lead the Mules. Derek Youngman added three goals and one assist, and Sayre two goals. Rutan and Tanner Holifield finished with one goal and one assist each.
