More than 1,900 homes and businesses in Scarborough lost electricity Thursday night after a transformer on Black Point Road caught on fire.

The outage, which affected a broad area between Black Point Road, Highland Avenue and Pleasant Hill Road, knocked out traffic lights and power around 4:50 p.m.

Power was restored around 8:30 p.m. by a repair crew from Central Maine Power Co.
