An Old Orchard Beach woman faces felony drug trafficking charges for her alleged role in the death of a woman who police say died from a heroin overdose.

Police Chief Dana Kelley said in a press release Wednesday night that Brittney Green, 21, is being held in the York County Jail in Alfred on a charge of unlawful trafficking in heroin causing death.

The crime is punishable by as much as 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

A jail official said Green’s bail is $200,000 cash or $150,000 in property.

She was arraigned by video in Biddeford District Court on Monday.

Kelley said police responded on March 21 to a report of a medical emergency at 68 East Grand Ave., and found a woman “unconscious and unresponsive.”

Rescue workers tried to revive the woman, but she died a short time later. An investigation by Old Orchard Beach detectives determined that the victim, whose name is not being released, died from a heroin overdose.

A warrant for Green’s arrest was issued last week. State police stopped her car Friday night on Interstate 95 north of Augusta and arrested her.
