The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust continues its efforts to balance the competing needs of visitors to Robinson Woods.
New dog-leash and biking regulations go into effect May 1, aiming to limit the impact of canines and trail-riders on the 145-acre conservation area off Shore Road.
Unleashed dogs will be allowed at Robinson Woods I from 4 p.m. to sunset and at Robinson Woods II from sunrise to 10 a.m., according to a revised public access plan approved Monday by the trust’s board of directors.
However, dogs must be leashed at all times on the Wildflower Trail segment in Robinson Woods I and on the Canter Way Trail between the Methodist Church Trails and Robinson Woods II.
Under new biking regulations, cyclists must stay on marked trails, yield to pedestrians and avoid high-speed riding. Trails may be periodically closed to riding to maintain trail integrity.
The revised public access plan will be in place for a one-year trial period. The trust will install new signs and publicize the new regulations to ensure compliance.
