LOWELL, Mass. — Ian Strom hit an RBI double with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift UMass-Lowell to a 4-3 win over Maine in an America East baseball game Saturday night.

The River Hawks (6-15, 2-4 America East) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to an early lead. Maine (10-18, 1-5) got one run back in the top of the sixth when Shane Bussey hit a leadoff triple and scored on a double play.

The Black Bears tied the game in the seventh on a double by Sam Balzano that scored Brian Doran and Kevin Stypulkowski.

Justin Courtney started on the mound for the Black Bears and gave up three runs in five innings. Jacob Gosselin-Deschesnes followed with two scoreless innings, and Logan Fullmer kept the game tied until giving up the winning run in the 10th.

Maine’s lone repeat hitter was Balzano, who had two hits and one walk.

USM SWEEPS RIC: Jake Welch and Damon Wallace homered and had three RBI apiece as Southern Maine (14-6, 4-2 Little East) completed a doubleheader sweep against Rhode Island College (12-7, 3-3) with a 9-6 win at Providence, Rhode Island.

Devin Warren and Nick DiBiase contributed three hits apiece for the Huskies, who led 9-3 after five innings.

In the opener, Welch hit a solo homer, Paul McDonough smacked a three-run double, and DiBiase finished with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in a 9-5 victory.

Andrew Richards closed out the game with 41/3 shutout innings to earn the win.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS ANNA MARIA: The Monks (15-10, 8-0 GNAC) pounded out 27 hits against Anna Maria (6-12, 1-5) to earn a pair of victories in Standish, 6-3 and 14-5.

Taylor Black drove in three runs in Game 1. St. Joseph’s, designated as the visiting team, broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh. Brett Barbati scored the go-ahead run on an error, and Max McCoomb and Black added RBI singles.

Lincoln Sanborn drove in four runs and Joe Coyne had three RBI in the second game. The Monks took control with a 12-run second inning.

BOWDOIN SPLITS WITH WESLEYAN: Peter Cimini hit an RBI single to center field in the top of the seventh inning to give Bowdoin (8-12) a 1-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Middletown, Connecticut.

Henry Van Zant recorded the shutout, allowing eight hits.

Wesleyan (14-5) took the second game, 3-2. Bowdoin’s Harry Ridge lasted five innings, giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.

BATES 8, COLBY 5: Sam Berry had two hits, two RBI and a run scored to pace the Bobcats (7-8, 2-1 NESCAC East) to a win over the Mules (11-5, 2-2) at Lewiston.

John Dinucci added two hits and two runs scored, and Mekae Hyde drove in a pair of runs. Rob DiFranco closed out the victory with 21/3 scoreless innings.

Colby got a three-run homer from Soren Hanson.

LACROSSE

UNE 9, SALVE REGINA 4: David Rubenstein and Shamus Higginbottom scored three goals apiece as the University of New England (7-7, 2-3 Commonwealth Coast) downed Salve Regina (4-6, 2-4) at Biddeford.

UNE led 5-4 at halftime. David Pearson held the visitors scoreless in the second half with 10 saves.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 9, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Bo Prozinski notched three goals and an assist as the Corsairs (5-7) beat the Huskies (6-3) at Gorham.

Austin Watts led USM with two goals.

The Huskies got consecutive goals from Jaymz McStowe, Burleigh Desjardins and Cody Hutchins late in the second half to close to within 7-5.

JOHNSON & WALES 8, ST. JOSEPH’S 3: Luigi Grimaldi scored twice for the Monks (5-7) in a loss to Johnson & Wales (6-6) in Portland.

St. Joseph’s led 2-1 after the first quarter, but Johnson & Wales netted the next six goals.

Eric Russo led the visitors with three goals.

BOWDOIN 12, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 7: David Nemirov had three goals and an assist to help the Bobcats (3-9, 2-5 NESCAC) beat the Camels (2-11, 0-8) at Brunswick.

Brandon Lee notched five assists for the Polar Bears, and Peter Reuter, Shawn Daly and Daniel O’Berry tallied two goals apiece.

BATES 14, MIDDLEBURY 7: Charlie Fay scored four first-half goals to help the Bobcats (8-4, 5-4 NESCAC) defeat Middlebury (10-3, 6-2) in Lewiston.

Three straight goals by Kyle Weber in the third quarter started a 6-0 run for Bates. Andrew Melvin contributed three goals and three assists.

AMHERST 13, COLBY 9: Chris Albanese and Dylan Park each had three goals and two assists as the Jeffs (12-1, 7-1 NESCAC) erased a 7-3 deficit against the Mules (6-5, 2-5) at Waterville.

Derek Youngman led Colby with two goals and two assists. John Grimaldi and Mark Philipps also scored two goals apiece.
