Savory Maine Restaurant in Damariscotta will be hosting two special meals to benefit the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. A lunch and a dinner, featuring talks by animal lover and artist Kelly P. Brook, will be held in conjunction with the Brook’s exhibit of images on metal of African animals that is currently on display in Savory Maine’s dining room.

The lunch and talk will take place at noon Tuesday, April 21, and will include a choice of quiche and lightly dressed seasonal greens or a bowl of Grace’s haddock chowder and a biscuit, blueberry rhubarb crisp with maple whipped cream and coffee or tea. The cost is $25 including tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

The dinner and talk will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 24. There will be a choice of carrot ginger soup, Grace’s haddock chowder or a garden salad, a choice of baked haddock topped with crabmeat and a garlic and dill crumb, gnocchi with a chantarelle, shiitake and garlic cream sauce, garlic roasted chicken, stuffing and gravy or a mixed vegetable platter. The dessert choices will include Maine maple flan, chocolate mousse and a peach and raspberry crisp. The cost is $50 exclusive of beverages, tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Guests at the lunch and dinner will eat surrounded by the images of the endangered animals of Zimbabwe and Botswana. Brook will share her experiences in Africa and the connections to the homeless animals at the Lincoln County animal shelter.

Brook lives in Sheepscot with her 3 dogs and two cats and presently serves as a director on the board of the Lincoln County Animal shelter in Edgecomb. For the Lincoln County News she writes a weekly column called “All Four Feet” which features animals from the shelter.

Savory Maine is located at 11 Water St., Damariscotta, and is open from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., serving lunch and dinner. It is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The restaurant sources most of its food from Maine and nearly all of it is organically grown or wild harvested. Savory Maine is proud to support local farmers, fishers, foragers, food producers, artists, musicians and local non-profit organizations.
