Ice jams continued to cause minor flooding in northern Maine Saturday night.

The National Weather Service in Caribou said minor flooding on roads in Washburn and Fort Fairfield on Saturday was caused by an ice jam on the Aroostook River.

Another ice jam, on the St. John River, was causing minor flooding on a low spot on Route 161 near the St. Francis and Allagash line. Meteorologist Corey Bogel said the weather service was unsure about the extent of the flooding, but no buildings were threatened.

The flooding is exacerbated by the melting of this winter’s heavy snows in northern Maine.
