TRENTON, N.J. — Eric Jagielo’s bases-loaded triple highlighted a five-run outburst in the third inning, lifting the Trenton Thunder to a 5-1 win Sunday over the Portland Sea Dogs at Arm & Hammer Park.

The Thunder scored all their runs with two outs, taking advantage of three walks issued by Portland starter Will Cuevas. Jagielo’s triple gave Trenton a 3-0 lead, then Dante Bichette Jr. followed with a double and scored on a single by Mason Williams.

Luis Severino (1-0), rated by Baseball America as the New York Yankees top prospect in the minors, combined with three other Trenton pitchers on a five-hitter. Severino allowed three hits, walked four and struck out six in five innings.

The Sea Dogs got their only run in the fifth inning. Tim Roberson singled with one out, moved to second when Carlos Asauje drew a two-out walk and scored on Jantzen Witte’s single to right. Witte was thrown out trying to advance to second, however.

Cuevas (1-1) was pulled after three innings, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks. Relievers Jonathan Aro and Dayan Diaz combined for five scoreless innings.

The Sea Dogs, who lost three of four games in Trenton, continue their first road trip of the season Monday night at the New Britain Rock Cats.
