Jared Brooks singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning Friday to give Cheverus a 4-3 victory against Biddeford in an SMAA baseball opener.

Jensen LaPoint’s line single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for Cheverus sent the game to extra innings.

Alex Libby had three singles for the Stags, who totaled 10 singles. Chris Billings added a pair of hits.

Brady Crepeau had two hits for Biddeford.

SACOPEE VALLEY 6, POLAND 3: Kyle Jordan hit a two-run double and D.J. Shea followed with an RBI double during a four-run fifth inning as the Hawks (1-0) pulled away from the Knights (0-3) at South Hiram.

Shea finished with two hits, and Devin Day collected three hits and scored three runs for the Hawks.

Sacopee starter Roderick Maynard gave up three runs on four hits, striking out five over six innings.

Jake Wiseman singled and scored for Poland.

BRUNSWICK 12, MT. ARARAT 2: Charlie Lowell went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs for the Dragons (2-0), who used a seven-run second inning to defeat the Eagles (0-2) at Brunswick.

Josh Goddard went 1 for 2 with a pair of sacrifice flies, and Elias Hense added a two-run double for Brunswick.

Lowell also allowed two runs on three hits, walking four and striking out two.

Ryan Mello had a double and a run for Mt. Ararat.

GORHAM 16, NOBLE 1: Andrew Schmidt had three hits, including two triples, scored three runs and drove in two to pace the Rams in a five-inning opener at Gorham.

Ben Nelson added two RBI and two runs, and Sam Kilborn struck out three and walked one in a three-hitter for Gorham.

Noble got its run in the fourth when Josh Schultz tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Chambers.

SCARBOROUGH 5, WESTBROOK 3: Nate Wessel pitched six solid innings, striking out six for the Red Storm in an opener at Scarborough.

Tim Ross had an RBI double for Scarborough, which scored twice in the second and added single runs in its final three at-bats.

Jack McCullough led Westbrook with three singles. Patrick Weimer added a double and a single.

BONNY EAGLE 4, SANFORD 1: Troy Bogdahn finished with eight strikeouts and no walks in a five-hitter as the Scots (2-0) beat the Spartans (0-1) at Sanford.

Drake Laughlin had one hit and drove in two runs, and Max Salevsky went 1 for 1 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base for Bonny Eagle, which scored twice in the first inning and added two in the third.

The Scots also got one hit, one run and one stolen base each from Dana McKay and Lane Poirier.

Xavier Chase and James Roche doubled for Sanford, and Chase finished with two hits.

LACROSSE

SOUTH PORTLAND 21, BIDDEFORD 3: Kam Andrews and Jack Fiorini combined for eight goals and seven assists as the Red Riots won an opener at South Portland.

Andrew Whipple added four goals and two assists for South Portland. Cody Sevigny led Biddeford with two goals.

CHEVERUS 18, DEERING 4: Nick Schleh had five goals and three assists to lead the visiting Stags in an opener at Portland.

Tom Lawson added three goals and three assists.

Nate Richards led Deering with two goals and two assists.

WINDHAM 12, PORTLAND 5: Zach Callahan scored seven goals and Griffin Jacobson added three as the Eagles (1-0) handled the Bulldogs (1-1) at Portland.
