U.S. Sen. Angus King is preparing for a trip to Canada with Secretary of State John Kerry.

The independent senator from Brunswick will travel to Iqaluit, Canada today to attend this year’s Artic Council Ministerial Meeting, where the U.S. will assume the chairmanship of the Arctic Council for the next two years.

King, who’s a founding member of the Senate Arctic Caucus, said this is an opportunity for the

S. to strengthen relationships that could “define the future of the region for decades to come.”
