Charles Barnard pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk in his first varsity start Thursday night to lead Portland to a 4-0 victory against Massabesic in an SMAA baseball game at Hadlock Field.

The Bulldogs (3-0) scored all of their runs in the fourth inning. John Williams hit a two-run triple that scored Dominic Tocci and Ryan Ruhlin. Barnard followed with a triple and came home on a single by Nick Archambault.

George Chaison-Lapine had two hits for Portland. Matt Allen had two hits for Massabesic (2-2).

GORHAM 5, SCARBOROUGH 4: Pinch-runner Jackson Taylor scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning as Gorham (2-1) slipped past the Red Storm (2-1) at Scarborough.

Jordan Ward reached on an error in the seventh and Taylor, running for him, stole second, advanced to third on an out and scored on the wild pitch.

Brendan Mercier had two hits and two RBI for Gorham. Jack Hughes collected two of Scarborough’s six hits.

THORNTON ACADEMY 13, SANFORD 8: Brogan Searle-Belanger doubled home two runs, Mitchell Jacques singled home a pair and both players scored as the Trojans (2-1) plated eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 13-7 lead against Sanford (0-2) at Saco.

Jacques finished with four RBI and two runs scored, and Conor Purvis drove home four on three singles.

DEERING 6, BIDDEFORD 5: James Sinclair singled home the tying and winning runs as the Rams (2-1) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Biddeford (0-3) at Portland.

Kevin Goldberg’s single drove in the first run of the rally.
