Recently, I’ve noticed that some people have put out bags of yard waste for the city to pick up. That’s wishful thinking on their part, I’m afraid.

After any winter, much less one as brutal as this year’s, there’s going to be a lot of spring cleanup.

Currently the only option for brush disposal is to drive to the recycling center on Riverside Street, a waste of time and gas. My neighbor recently went on a Saturday, and the line to get in was backed up past the Hannaford parking lot.

The city should consider a limited spring yard waste pickup – perhaps two pickups, three weeks apart, satisfying those who clean up at the first sign of spring as well as those who take a bit longer.

Or even better and less costly for the city, I would think, resume the Saturday morning yard waste drop-off at the West School site on Douglass Street.
