Now that corporations are considered people, they are able to influence our elected officials in ways never imagined by the Founding Fathers.

The present example is the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact put together by President Obama with overwhelming input from corporations and their lobbyists, with 85 percent of the participants representing business.

Obama calls Sen. Elizabeth Warren dishonest when she criticizes this deal, but he will not release the details before a congressional vote so that we, the public, can determine who is being dishonest. So far, a group of Democrats, together with a smaller group of Republicans, has insisted on a public debate.

Kudos to our entire Maine delegation for expressing doubts about this trade deal, as it will probably affect Maine jobs in the athletic shoe industry.

I urge our delegation to openly voice their support for Warren’s request for full disclosure before any vote.
