BIDDEFORD — Host Biddeford scored eight runs in the second inning and cruised to an 11-3 victory over McAuley in an SMAA softball game at Doran Field Monday.

The big inning featured a solo home run by Brook Davis ”“ the first in the freshman catcher’s high school career. Kirsten Lebreux and Abbie Paquette both had two-run singles and Jocelyn Moody drove in another run with one of her four hits.

Paquette earned the win on the mound for the Tigers (4-1), as she struck out five batters over seven innings while allowing three runs on nine hits.

Taylor Whaley suffered the loss for the Lions (2-3), as she gave up 11 runs over 3 2/3 innings.

GREELY 5, WELLS 2

WELLS — Greely posted a four-run top of the sixth for all the scoring it needed in a 5-2 victory over host Wells in a WMC softball game Monday.

Miranda Moore smacked a two-run triple for the Rangers (2-3) in the fifth, and Charlotte Benoit and Miranda Eisenhart both hit RBI singles.

Sam Bogue and Sara Ring each scored runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate for the Warriors (2-3).

Alison Duplisea took the loss for Wells, as she allowed five runs on 12 hits over seven innings. Kelsey Currier struck out five in a complete-game win for Greely.

Baseball

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 12, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 2

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The host Seagulls jumped well ahead early then finished off North Yarmouth Academy as Old Orchard Beach won 12-2 in six innings in a WMC baseball game Monday.

The Seagulls (3-2) were efficient on offense, scoring their run 12 runs on 12 hits and making the most of three Panthers (0-5) errors. A double by Thomas Fregeau was the lone extra-base hit for OOB.

Fregeau, Mason Beaudoin, Sam Custeau and Cody Blanchette each had two hits for the Seagulls. Dustin Brown struck out five and allowed six hits in six innings on the mound for OOB.

Connor Dillon took the loss for NYA, as he gave up eight runs in just 2 1/3 innings. Johnny Busolin hit a double for the Panthers.

Boys Tennis

THORNTON 4, PORTLAND 1

SACO — Host Thornton Academy got wins from its top two singles players and both its doubles teams as the Trojans beat Portland 4-1 in an SMAA boys tennis match Monday.

Victor Menezes and Carlos Jiminez record straight-sets victories in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Thornton’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Dylan Gooch and Simon Belliveau needed three sets to dispatch of Portland’s Will Sarvis and Quinn Clarke, while Eric Gooch and Jared Waterhouse won in straight sets.

Peter Gribizis beat Vojtech Brtinsky in three sets for Portland’s lone match win.

BIDDEFORD 3, BONNY EAGLE 2

BIDDEFORD — Ashton Collins and Ken Reyes both won in straight sets to help lift Biddeford past visiting Bonny Eagle 3-2 in an SMAA boys tennis match Monday.

Collins defeated Zack Moody 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles while Reyes won 6-1, 6-0 against Nick Bean in the No. 2 singles match.

The teams split the double matches, with Biddeford’s No. 1 doubles pair of Jace Heavey and Adam Michel winning in straight sets.
