Nine Maine arts groups will receive nearly $900,000 in federal money through the National Endowment for the Arts. The Maine Arts Commission receives the bulk, with $723,000 to support statewide activities. Other arts groups receiving money are:

Cultural Resources Inc., Rockport, $21,000; Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Deer Isle, $20,000; Maine Fiberarts, Topsham, $10,000; PORTopera, Portland, $15,000; Portland Ovations, $30,000; The Telling Room, Portland, $10,000; University of Maine, Orono, $25,000; Farnsworth Library & Art Museum, Inc., Rockland; $40,000.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree announced the funding at a grants workshop in Augusta on Tuesday with staff from the NEA, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Representatives of more than 80 Maine libraries, museums, historic preservation groups, and arts organizations attended.
