PORTLAND — Townsquare Media, owner of several radio stations in Portland, announced Wednesday it will host a one-day rock festival Aug. 8 at the city’s Eastern Promenade park.

The event, called the Portland Lights Music Festival, will be headlined by Guster, a nationally known band featuring Maine resident Adam Gardner.

The concert event will also include Dr. Dog, Augustana, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, In the Valley Below, and Dominic and the Lucid.

Tickets are $24 to $60 and go on sale Friday.

In October, the Portland City Council voted 7-0 to allow Townsquare Media to host a music festival at the city-owned park on an unspecified day in August, though no other details were given about acts at that time. Townsquare announced the acts for the event Wednesday morning on Portland alternative rock radio station WCYY.

The announcement comes at a time when Portland is slated to see more outdoor concerts by national acts than ever before. Bangor-based Waterfront Concerts has already announced more than 20 shows, from Billy Idol to the Beach Boys, for Portland’s Maine State Pier this summer. The pier has never hosted more than four or five major concerts in a year. And a new outdoor venue at Thompson’s Point is planning four to six shows this summer.

The last major concert event on the Eastern Promenade was in 2012, when the State Theatre organized a day-long festival headlined by Mumford & Sons. That event drew more than 15,000 people.
