SOUTH PORTLAND — Henry Curran pitched a one-hitter with 19 strikeouts and drove home the only run, and South Portland remained undefeated with a 1-0 win over Cheverus in an SMAA baseball game Saturday.
South Portland, the top-ranked team in Western Class A, is now 6-0. Cheverus dropped to 4-2 despite a three-hitter by Alex Jacobs.
Curran’s third-inning single up the middle drove home Hayden Owen.
DEERING 5, BONNY EAGLE 3: Patrick Viola had two hits and two RBI, and Sam Luebbert pitched a complete game to help the Rams (4-3) edge the Scots (4-3) at Standish.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 6, WAYNFLETE 2: Haize Fassett hit an inside-the-park home run on his way to a four-RBI day, lifting the Panthers (1-6) over the Flyers (2-5) in Yarmouth.
Joey Hogan held the Flyers to two runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings. He also contributed a pair of hits.
MARSHWOOD 6, WESTBROOK 3: Noah McDaniel and Jacob Lebel hit back-to-back first-inning home runs to start the Hawks (5-1) on their way to a win over Westbrook (2-5) in South Berwick.
RICHMOND SWEEPS GREENVILLE: Cameron Emmons drove in six runs as Richmond (7-1) routed visiting Greenville (2-2) in a doubleheader, 14-4 and 11-1.
LACROSSE
BRUNSWICK 14, YARMOUTH 8: Ryan Croatti and Cam Glover each scored four goals and assisted on another as the Dragons (6-0) beat the Clippers (3-2) in Brunswick.
T.J. Sullivan and Matt Brooks contributed two goals each.
Joe Oliva paced Yarmouth with five goals and an assist.
CAPE ELIZABETH 10, SCARBOROUGH 4: Owen Thoreck scored four goals, Cole Caswell added three and the Capers (5-0) overcame an early deficit to beat the visiting Red Storm (3-3).
Ben Shea added a goal and an assist for Cape Elizabeth, which fell behind 2-0 before building a 6-2 halftime lead.
THORNTON ACADEMY 16, GREELY 8: Zach Bryant scored six goals, and the Golden Trojans (4-1) pulled away from a 6-6 tie early in the second half to defeat Greely (3-2) at Saco.
Wyatt LeBlanc added three goals and an assist.
Tim Day had four goals for Greely.
PORTLAND 9, EDWARD LITTLE 3: D.J. Cooper had four goals and two assists to lead the Bulldogs (2-4) past the Red Eddies (2-5) at Auburn.
Andrew Hoekstra made 13 saves for the Bulldogs.
GORHAM 16, YORK 4: Cam Wright scored six goals an added two assists to lead the Rams (5-0) to a victory against the Wildcats (1-4) in York.
Tristan Brunet contributed three goals and three assists, and Abraham Eaton had three goals and one assist.
WAYNFLETE 13, OAK HILL 6: Ford Malter scored five goals and assisted on two others while leading the Flyers (4-1) past Oak Hill (1-2) in Wales.
Kaleb Sturtevant had two goals and an assist for the Raiders.
CAMDEN HILLS 8, LAKE REGION 4: Thomas Griebel scored three goals to lead the Windjammers (4-4) to a victory against the Lakers (0-5) in Rockport.
Jonah Cameron added a goal and two assists.
Zeke Tocci scored twice for the Lakers.
