Dan Vassallo, 30, of Peabody, Massachusetts, and Erica Jesseman, 26, of Scarborough were the overall winners at the 15th Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K on Sunday.

Vassallo, a Colby College graduate and former Sea Dogs intern, finished in 15 minutes, 43 seconds. The Maine Marathon record holder beat Aaron Chelate, 33, of Saco by 24 seconds. Jeff Jones, 45, of Chelsea was third in 16:29.

Jesseman, who holds the women’s course record (16:42 in 2013), won the women’s division for the fourth straight year with a time of 17:38. Christine Irish, 40, of North Yarmouth placed second (18:42) and Marah Borgman, 30, of Portland was third (18:51).

A field of 3,000 runners was expected for the race, which began outside the Portland Expo and ended inside Hadlock Field in front of the third-base dugout.

Proceeds from the event benefit Maine breast cancer patients and research.
