FALMOUTH – It’s not that often that a pantry is a prime contender for “favorite room in the house.” But this is no ordinary pantry.

It’s very open, with a bar/counter/pass-through next to the entry; a repurposed, 45-pane antique window on the living room side; and on the other, windows that open to the patio, for easy outdoors serving in fine weather. There’s a sink in the marble counter, a double beer tap, a stained-glass window above the bar. The ceiling is paneled, the hardwood floorboards painted. Some people might never leave this room.

And as you might expect, this is no ordinary home. Built in 1792, in 2012 it was completely restored and renovated by Nicola’s Home in Yarmouth.

Nicola Manganello is renowned for her inspired home design and re-design and inimitable eye for combining classic and antique character with the freshest modernity. These qualities are epitomized throughout this 3,840-square-foot, four-or-five-bedroom, five-fireplace home.

Behind the wraparound farmer’s porch, the main floor essentially forms a spacious T. The wide room across the front extends from comfortably formal dining (note the chandelier of 20 glass songbirds) through to a family room/den whose fireplace is flanked by amazingly wide repurposed barnboards.

Behind the pantry and sitting area, the dine-in kitchen (slate sink, Carrera marble counters, stainless-and-black appliances including commercial-grade gas range) flows back into the living room, and also accesses the huge brick patio.

A few short steps up from the living room, the original barn has been re-invented as a long bonus room that makes an ideal home office, family room or exercise room, and has a delightful solarium at the south end. A guest/master suite could be created here; there’s a private entrance, too.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, each with its individual identity:  the sweet potential nursery; the front bedroom with the high, built-in bed, and the front bedroom with the custom wardrobe; the master suite, whose bedroom seems set amid a garden (unless you press a button to lower the complete-privacy shades) and whose bath feature gorgeous sapphire-blue tile.

A Jack and Jill full bath with oversized shower enclosure serves the other bedrooms. Signature Nicola’s Home touches include wallpaper that is patterned on a hall ceiling, and grasscloth and textured clapboard-likeness in bedrooms.

The property has a detached, two-vehicle garage with storage above, and the 1.1-acre lot is gorgeously landscaped, with island beds, and hardscaping including an ancient stone wall.

The home at 10 Falls Road, Falmouth, is listed for sale at $895,000 by Linda MacDonald of Linda MacDonald Associates at RE/MAX By The Bay, and is being shown by appointment.
