FREEPORT — Alice L. Puiia, 98, of Freeport, passed away on April 19, 2015, in North Port, FL, with her family by her side.

She was born in Bath, ME, on Nov. 19, 1916, the daughter of Peter and Maria Tourigny Couture. She was educated in Bath schools. She married Antonio Puiia Jr. in 1935. They lived most of their married life in Freeport where she was active in the fundraising for the building of St. Jude’s Catholic Church.

Alice was a waitress at several local restaurants, an Avon representative and sold at the Freeport Flea Market. She loved being with family and friends and enjoyed spending summers at her cottage on the New Meadows River in West Bath. Her hobbies included doll collecting, embroidery, playing cards, painting and decorating. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Antonio, three sisters and four brothers. She will be dearly missed by three daughters, Laurette Fisher of Sparks, NV, Sandra Lapham and her husband James of Freeport, ME and North Port, FL, Dianne Giggey and her husband Roger of Pensacola, FL. She also leaves a brother Leo Couture of Westbrook, ME, four grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on April 24, 2015, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, FL. The burial service will be at Burr Cemetery in Freeport, May 22, 2015, at 11 a.m.
