AUGUSTA (AP) — A bill to change the way Maine regulates raw milk sales is headed back to committee for revisions as soon as this week.

Representative William Noon wants to allow dairy farmers to sell unpasteurized milk directly to customers without a license. The Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry voted 7-6 earlier this year to recommend that the law change not pass. Noon says the bill has a chance to return to the committee this week and could be revised. The bill needs to eventually go before the full Legislature for it to pass.

Noon’s bill only applies to farmers who sell to consumers at their farm, requires the farmers to take a sanitation course and prohibits them from advertising.
