BATH — A city resident hit a $2 million jackpot, and by selling the winning Powerball ticket, Brackett’s Market became a winner, too.

The ticket holder has declined to discuss his good fortune. But the business owners, Kimberly and Steve Brackett, thought they’d share the joy.

While $10,000 of their $20,000 bonus will go toward store expenses, the remainder will be divided equally among the market’s 28 employees: each person gets $350, Kimberly Brackett said Monday.

“One of my employees said, ‘We all won the lottery,'” she said. “It’s so good to be able to give back, and thank the people that make Brackett’s Market, Brackett’s Market.”

The winning ticket was the largest in the market’s 19-year history. The $2 Powerball ticket was sold to Theodore Drake, a Bath resident, for the May 6 drawing, according to a Maine Lottery press release Tuesday.

Drake chose some of the numbers on his own and allowed the computer to pick the others. He spent an extra dollar to upgrade his ticket to the Power Play option, doubling the amount he won, according to the press release.

“It’s fun,” Brackett said of the opportunity to sell such a ticket. “We feel really lucky now.”
