A man from Abbott has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of his father two weeks ago in the Piscataquis County town of Parkman.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, identified the murder suspect in a press release as Zachery Grant, 38.

Grant was taken into policy custody Wednesday afternoon, after he was released from Acadia Hospital in Bangor. Grant had been hospitalized for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.

McCausland said David Grant, 61, was found shot to death in the front yard of his mobile home in Parkman on May 12. The state Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Grant died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities decided to have state police arrest Zachery Grant upon his release from the hospital. He is being held in the Piscataquis County Jail and will make his first court appearance on Thursday or Friday in Dover-Foxcroft.
