Freeport baseball shuts down Yarmouth, 4-0

BRUNSWICK — Cam Glover tallied seven goals as the Brunswick High School boys lacrosse team ran past Messalonskee, 17-13, in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference battle on Wednesday.

The Dragons improved to 11-0 and play host to Morse on Tuesday in the regularseason finale, while Messalonskee fell to 6-4 despite giving the hosts a tough battle.

Brunswick goaltender Mitchell Smith turned aside 13 shots in the win, while Ryan Croatti added four goals and three assists.

Tied 10-10 heading to the fourth quarter, the Dragons outscored the Eagles, 7-3, to stay unbeaten.

Dylan Jones led Messalonskee with three goals and two assists.

Baseball

Jack Davenport spun a five-hitter as Freeport downed Yarmouth, 4-0, in a Western Maine Conference battle at Freeport.

Davenport struck out 11 and walked one as the Falcons improved to 6-8 with their second straight shutout. Freeport avenged an early-season 7-3 loss to the 8-6 Clippers.

Peter LaMagna doubled, tripled, scored two runs and picked up an RBI to lead the Freeport offense. Davenport and Colby Wagner had two hits each, while Nate Cyr added two RBIs on a pair of sacrifice fly balls. Bennett Hight chipped in a double.

CJ Cawley was 2-for-2 for Yarmouth, while pitcher Luke Klenda went the distance on eight hits and six strikeouts.

Freeport visits Old Orchard Beach on Friday at 4 p.m.
