A New Gloucester man who is accused of shooting a handgun at an all-terrain vehicle rider near his home was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of reckless conduct.

Mark Leighton, 58, of 41 Tyler Ave. was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland after his arrest and was released on $160 bail pending a court appearance on July 15.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office investigated Leighton after the ATV rider reported being shot at around 6:15 p.m.

If convicted of the felony charge, Leighton will face as much as five years in prison.
