Police are searching for an armed man who they say assaulted a woman and stole prescription drugs in a home invasion on Riva Ridge Road in Vassalboro on Thursday morning.

The woman heard a knock at her door around 7 a.m. and was confronted by an armed intruder who struck her several times in the face and demanded prescription painkillers, according to Capt. Chris Cowan of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. After the victim gave him the drugs, the man fled. The woman was injured and taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta for treatment.

The suspect, who Cowan described as a slim, white male wearing a hoodie sweatshirt, baggy jeans and a black and white bandana over his face, is believed to have left the area in a car. Cowan said police think this was a targeted incident and that the office’s Major Crimes Unit is following up on the case.

Police asked that anyone with information to call the sheriff’s office at 623-3591 or email tipshotline@kennebecso.com.
