The Bates College women’s rowing team won the first NCAA team championship in college history Saturday at Gold River, Colorado, beating defending champion Trinity by one point.

Bates scored 20 points with a win in the women’s second varsity eights grand final and 19 more by finishing second to Trinity in the varsity eight grand final. Trinity was third in the second varsity eight and finished with a total of 38 points.

The Bobcats’ varsity eight lineup included Alison Simmons, Eliza Barkan, Emilie Muller, Elise Emil, Emma Taylor, Jenna Armstrong, Mallory Ward, Rebecca O’Neil and Katherine Traquina.

The Bobcats’ second varsity eight included Laura Rand, Elizabeth Scholle, Rosemary Kyne, Olivia Stockly, Emma Conover, Michelle Kelley, Julia Mason, Molly Pritz and Abigail Bierman.
