YARMOUTH — Patricia Ann Jordan, 81, died peacefully May 29 in her Yarmouth home, surrounded by her family.

Jordan was born Aug. 22, 1933, to Ruth Slocum Pennings and Charles J. Pennings Jr. She was a precocious child with a blue eye and a brown eye, which her family later said symbolized the diverse range of her vivacious personality. She attended several schools, including Deering High School, Waynflete School and Fryeburg Academy.

While at Fryeburg, she developed a love of skiing in nearby North Conway, New Hampshire, where she formed many close friendships. She graduated from Westbrook Junior College.

In 1957, she married Joseph “Chet” Jordan. Settling in Cumberland, the couple raised four children, Julie, Joe, Joanne and Jill, and worked to fill their lives with adventure.

Patricia let her children skip school in order to go fiddlehead-hunting, and taught them to love animals, host a great party, and play her favorite poker game, 99. Over the years, she always loved traveling with her family. She also took up snowmobiling, and later, enjoyed reality television.

Jordan was predeceased by her husband, in 1994; her parents; and her brothers, Ralph and Jim Mahoney.

She is survived by her children; her grandchildren, Lauren and Paige Vashon, Carrie Kennedy, Heather Foster, Jessica and Chet Jordan, and Ben and Gabe Marchese; and great-grandchildren, Jaden and Madison Kennedy and Maiya Vashon.

A Mass of Christian burial was held June 2 at Sacred Heart Church, in Yarmouth, with the Right Rev. Mark A. Cooper and the Most Rev. Joseph J. Gerry presiding. A celebration followed at the Portland Country Club, in Falmouth.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Tri for a Cure, c/o Maine Cancer Foundation, 170 U.S. Route 1, Falmouth, ME 04105, or to the Animal Refuge League, P.O. Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098.
