HOPE — A Camden man was killed after a large rock rolled off a truck and went through the windshield of the car he was driving in the midcoast community of Hope on Tuesday afternoon.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Timothy K. Carroll said in a news release that the accident happened around 3 p.m. on Route 17 near the Hope and Union town line.

Carroll identified the victim as 73-year-old James Nash of Camden. Nash was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment of minor injuries and shock.

Carroll said the sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s assistance in the locating the driver of the vehicle that was carrying the rocks. Carroll said the driver is probably unaware of what happened. Carroll said the rock was 6 to 8 inches in diameter.

A description of the truck is not available. Anyone with information concerning the accident should contact the sheriff’s office at 593-9131.
