Re: “Court rules Maine doesn’t have to reimburse cities for aid to asylum seekers” (June 9):

I am amazed that David Sorensen called Tuesday’s Maine Superior Court ruling allowing the state to withhold General Assistance reimbursements for asylum seekers “a major win.”

Mr. Sorensen is spokesman for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

How can it possibly be a “win” for the department to have hundreds of people in Maine thrown out of their apartments and left with no means of support during a period when they are not allowed to legally work?

Mr. Sorensen and his boss, Gov. LePage, just increased the homeless and hungry population in Maine. This is a “win”?
