Re: “Two-way traffic urged for Portland’s State and High streets” (June 9):
In reading of proposed changes to High and State streets and the reasons for such, I have yet to hear of plans for the Casco Bay Bridge traffic patterns. Have they been studied? Do South Portland and Cape Elizabeth residents who depend on the bridge have any input?
Also, I wonder if anything other than at least $3 million changes has ever been considered. If the problem is car speed, has anyone thought of a few (less-expensive) speed bumps?
Never in my travels to and from Portland have I seen any police personnel on State Street. What would happen if two police officers were in place from time to time to stop and ticket drivers?
It just seems that the push for change to two-way traffic or nothing falls short of looking at all possibilities.
