YARMOUTH — Charles Phillip Roux, 72, of Yarmouth, died June 5 at Mercy Hospital in Portland.

He was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Portland, the oldest of three sons of Janice (Simmons) and C. Charles Roux. He graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, where he played on the basketball team.

Roux enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and was sent to Yale University to become a linguist. He was then stationed in Taiwan.

While enjoying a leave from the military, he met his future wife, Nancy Curtis, on a blind date. The couple would have celebrated the 48th anniversary of their marriage on June 17.

After completing his Air Force service, Roux pursued a career in banking. He started with Sun Savings in Portland, and 33 years later retired as an executive vice president with TD Bank.

He enjoyed golf, hunting and reading, especially about Civil War history. Along with a few friends, he owned and spent time at a camp, nicknamed “Seldom Inn,” in Kingsbury.

Roux served as a member of the Lions Club, participated in an ATV group in Bingham, and was a longtime member of The Construction Golf League. He was known for being the “go to” guy for those in need, whether it was for a wise listener or for instruction in golf.

Roux is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Yarmouth; his son, Charles Roux, his wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Abigail, of Auburn; his daughter, Danielle Pare, her husband, Raymond, and their children, Kathryn and Braden, of North Yarmouth; his son, Christian Roux, his wife, Katelyn, and their daughter, Lilah, of Falmouth; his brother, Paul D. Roux, and his wife, Susan, of Yarmouth; his brother, Thomas Roux, and his wife, Deborah, of Yarmouth; and seven nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life and a service were held June 12 at Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth. Burial was to be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
